In his attempt to find an explanation for his alcoholic father’s death, Sven steps into his shoes and in front of the camera. A courageous film about a reunion with the past.Sven has lived almost half his life without his father, who was found dead 17 years ago in a snowdrift a few kilometres away from their home. His father Niels was a ceramic artist, but died of escalating alcohol abuse, and did not only leave shadows far into Sven’s life. He also left behind a mysterious box of sketches, videos and tape recordings. And they are the basis for the reconstruction of their childhood scenes, which Sven together with his somewhat more sceptical brother sets about filming with himself in front of the camera – and alternating in the role as his own father and his younger self. An artistic process, which turns into a reunion with the past, and which swirls into many forgotten and repressed parts of Sven and his family’s common history. ‘In My Father’s Hands’ is a film about the courage to confront oneself, and with the courage to do things one’s own way.
